Sustainable Photographer

Living sustainably is so important to me. I want to do my part to leave the planet in better shape for my daughter and her generation and see how I can move the needle and influence others to do the same.

In general, I live a sustainable lifestyle the best that I can, so it naturally bleeds into my work as a photographer. I’m of the mindset that if everyone led an imperfect sustainable lifestyle, we will be in better shape than if we all tried to do it perfectly.

Here’s how I practice sustainability in my photography:

  • Buy (and sell) used gear

  • Only buy what I need

  • Repurpose items I already have (plastic bags as a filter, household items for props)

  • Curate a client closet with thrifted finds and clothes my daughter outgrew (also thrifted and handed down)

  • Change my default search engine to Ecosia to plant trees

  • Use rechargeable batteries in my flash

  • When I lived in Oklahoma I was able to opt into 100% wind energy through my electric company. I’m not able to do that in NC, but we will be upgrading to solar power (an an EV after that)!
